Why does my water bill seem higher this month?

If your Louisville Water bill appears to be higher this month, there are a few factors that come into play.

After the driest, hottest August and September on record, you may have used more water for your lawn or garden, pool, or for an irrigation system.

This is in addition to everyday use of showers, toilets, bath tubs, washing machines, hot water heaters, etc.  All of that water adds up.

The amount of water you use is measured in gallons. We bill in the thousands of a gallon.

We read your meter in thousands to determine how many gallons you used over the past billing cycle and then multiply the usage by your rate to calculate the charge for the water. 

If you're billed for 9, that represents 9,000 gallons of water that went through your meter.

Most of our customers get a bi-monthly bill. That means water you used in August and September may not show up until you receive a bill in October. 

Next,  Louisville MSD rates increased on Aug. 1. This is listed in the green section on the back of your bill under Wastewater, Stormwater and Drainage charges.

Although Louisville Water and MSD are two separate entities, both bills are consolidated into one as a convenience.
